How to manage time as a student
Time management is the basic key for any person. We might think that we have ample time but in reality with 24 hours in a day and 7 hours a day, time comes with inbuilt constraint. As a student, time is commodity as well as resource that we must maximise to complete our tasks on time.
What do we mean by time management?
Time management is a process with which we use our limited time effectively and productively. It is a skill which is worth learning and mastering.
Following are some of the best tips for time management as a student:
1. Set your goals
The most important part of managing your time well is to know your goals and eliminate time wasters. By implying this technique, you would be able to structure your limited time in a well established structure. For setting your goals, you need to take a look at activities in which you spend your whole day on. For example, if you observe that you sleep for 11 to 12 hours in a day of 24 hours, you might want to take it down to 8 to 9 hours as that is what an average human being needs for functioning well, in this way you will get 3 hours more on your day for other productive or recreational activities.
2. Break up your large tasks into multiple small tasks
When you make a large and lengthy to-do list, you might feel demotivated just by looking at it. Breaking up a long list of things to do into smaller tasks is more achievable and practical. It will make your work to be completed in a fast and efficient way.
3. Eliminate distractions
Generally, student mind is very restless as they have various thoughts going on in their minds at the same time, hence, their minds get distracted very easily. However, even a tiny distraction can affect your schedule and studying pattern to a larger extent. In today’s era, mobile phones are the biggest distractions of any student.
Therefore, it is always advisable to put your phone on “Do not disturb” mode, or on “silent mode” while studying or working.
4. Work on one task at one time
Mixing two or three tasks at one time can disturb the mind and will hamper the productivity of all such tasks, which will completely waste your valuable time. Hence, always work on one task at one time to focus on that particular task and complete it effectively rather than wasting your time.
5. Avoid procrastination
Procrastinating is a process of overthinking about doing any tasks and avoiding to perform that on time. In this way, you put off your tasks until deadlines which can be harmful for your schedule. Hence, avoid procrastination about your tasks and try to perform them on time to be within deadlines and avoiding last-minute stress of completing.
6. Study in shorter breaks
You should never study in a long run as it can hamper your later routine. By studying altogether in a long run, you can be overtired and may be overwhelmed, hence, you shall divide your long run studies with shorter breaks so that your brain can get a break and be refreshed for next study session. This will help you in more productive study sessions.
7. Get enough sleep
Believe it or not, but having a good sleep schedule is a must have for any person of any age group. Sleeping peacefully heals your body and mind, having an undisturbed and sound sleep can improve your health and even improve your memory. Hence, sleeping soundly will have the most positive effects on your health and sound body and mind will help in managing your time more effectively.
